To reach Mackinac Island, the greenhouse had to be ferried by boat – then hauled by horse-drawn wagon to the build site. There are no motor vehicles allowed on the island.
Construction began with a custom foundation and kneewall, the finished greenhouse connects to a nearby shed via a covered vestibule-style walkway.
The Grand Hotel utilizes the greenhouse year round for annual gardening projects throughout the property, and as an event space for weddings, celebrations, corporate outings and more.
The greenhouse is open to the public and welcomes all island visitors.
